What an amazing event! Thank you for coming and showing your support. Here’s a brief summary:
April 16, 2018 Pre-Legislation Day Rally and Training
During the day NYS LEAH board members made 9 visits to NYS legislators, legislative directors, education committee chairs, and a legislative analyst.
150+ came Monday evening to the Holiday Inn Express (Downtown Albany) to the worship time with Daniel Heffington (Generation Joshua) and the training time with TJ Schmidt (HSLDA). 70+ youth were present for the post pizza and fellowship time.
April 17, 2018 Legislation Day
During Legislative Day 2018 over 400 came, representing over 95 families from across NYS, with 53 legislative visits including majority leaders of the assembly and senate.
We began the day with Worship and Prayer in THE WELL, received some guidelines and enjoyed an incredible continental breakfast.
We were sent out in prayer by our President of NYS LEAH, Rudy Hugo, and some of us put on as much as 3 miles of walking as we went to 53 pre-scheduled appointments! A NYS LEAH Board member accompanied each group as they spoke with their assembly person or senator. Most often the board member helped with the initial introduction and explanation of the bills, using the pre-printed material and packets that were prepared, and then the group spoke for themselves.
There were opportunities to go to the NYS Museum, tour the Capital, or attend a committee meeting on higher education.
We want to extend our most heart felt gratitude to Senator Robach for sponsoring our event and for graciously encouraging us.
We want to thank Sentor DeFracesco for stopping by and giving a shout out, too!
We were also joined by Senator Akshar who brought words of encouragement and affirmed Senator Robach’s advocacy for home educators.
We are already beginning to see Sentors and Assembly members sign onto our bills:
FAIR PLAY BILL:
Assemblyman Morinello joined, bringing total to 39!
Sentors Avella, Dilan, and Gallivan joined as co-sponsors bringing total to 13!
EQUAL ACCESS BILL:
Senators Gallivan, Ortt and Ritchie signed on as co-sponsors bringing total to 9!
HOME INSTRUCTION BILL:
We stayed neutral on this one and did not push it during legislation day. We are however continuing to work on this outside of legislation day with the board of regents and negotiating with members of the assembly and senate.
A HUGE THANK YOU TO THE NYS LEAH REGIONAL REPRESENTATIVES WHO CAME AND WALKED THE HALLS AND HIKED UP AND DOWN THE STAIRS TO GET TO MEETINGS.
AN EXTREME THANK YOU TO ALL THE FAMILIES WHO TOOK TIME TO COME TO ALBANY. IT REALLY MAKES A DIFFERENCE. WE MUST NOT GIVE UP BUT CONTINUE TO COME.
… and a special thank you to “LEAH Faith in History” theatrical presentation from Binghampton/Southern Tier.
SAVE THE DATE APRIL 9, 2019 IS THE TENTATIVE DATE FOR NEXT YEAR.
