When I think of the word “harvest,” my mind naturally goes right to the fruits of the season. Around this time of year, it’s grapes, apples, and pears, but if given the opportunity to meditate on it, harvest extends beyond the tangible and yields far more than I can imagine. As I was in the midst of calculating how to prepare the abundance of continued vegetables and herbs from my home garden, I received a call from a friend that it was the best time to go get this year’s grapes. As I drove to the grape vineyard, my mind was in a state of mental organization–going through the timeline of the remainder of the day without a thought geared to what I was about to embark on (because quite frankly, preserving fruitful seasons is my thing, and sometimes I miss out on the true blessings right in front of me. However, it did not take long before I caught my breath at the beautiful sight in front of me; I was simply in awe. I closed my eyes and felt the warm sun finding its way on my face through the cool breeze as I recalled John 15:4 – “Remain in me, and I will remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me.”
