Greetings in Christ,
Welcome to another season of H.I.S. Baseball. H.I.S. Baseball is established to provide sporting competition for LEAH home schooled students in a Christ-centered setting. While offering an opportunity for our home schooled children to play in a team sport, we also seek to provide opportunities for home schooling dads to become directly involved in discipling by coaching and mentoring our children. Our ministry is heavily dependent on the willingness of fathers to volunteer their time to work with our children. It is our desire that we will see the hearts of the fathers and the hearts of the children knit together as we spend time exercising and playing together. H.I.S. Baseball also provides an opportunity for families to have each of their home schooled children in a sporting activity at the same time, in the same location.
If you would like to enroll your LEAH home schooled children in this year’s H.I.S. Baseball season, please use the enclosed registration form. On this registration form, you will also find opportunities listed for dads to volunteer to help. Please prayerfully consider where you can help. For those dads willing to help coach, we have a very complete coach’s manual to help guide you as you work with the players. Dads who have coached previously will also be available to co-coach with you if you are new to H.I.S. Baseball. There are also other areas where we need volunteers, as well. Moms & Dads are needed to do various jobs such as field prep, snack table and sound system set-up. If you can help out in these areas, please indicate so on the registration form.
Again this year we will plan to break out our leagues into 5 age brackets. The age divisions are as follows:
Tee-Ball: boys and girls ages 5-6
Coach-Pitch I (Junior League): boys and girls ages 7-8
Coach-Pitch II (Minor League): boys and girls ages 9-10
Baseball (Major League): boys and girls ages 11-13
Teen Softball: boys and girls ages 14 & up and registered dads
Note: If you as parents feel that your child is athletically developed at a rate faster or slower than most children their age, you may request that we place them in a league that is either 1 year ahead or behind their peers. Please use your own discretion on this. This would also apply to 4 year old students who may be developed enough to play with 5-6 year olds.
Depending on the number of players registering this season, and the number of fathers who volunteer to coach, we
hope to have at least 4 teams in each league.
Our leagues will play for (10) scheduled weeks, Lord willing, starting April 19 through June 28. There will be no base- ball on Friday, May 31st (due to the NYS LEAH Conference) and Friday, May 18th (due to a dog show). There is another Friday that will be taken up by a lacrosse tournament. We will provide more information on that later. Games begin at 6:30pm at Bullis Park in the town of Macedon. Bullis Park is located on Canandaigua Rd. between Rte. 31 and the Erie Canal. Come sunshine or rain. Any cancellations will be determined at the field. If cancellation is necessary due to significant rain throughout the day at Bullis Park, we will attempt to notify families via e-mail by 5:00pm on game day. If you have an e-mail address, please include it on the registration form. For those families that do not have e-mail access at home, we will attempt to reach you by telephone if the games are rained out. If you do not hear from us regarding a cancellation, please come to the park.
On the enclosed registration form, enter your children’s names, ages, and shirt size. Please be careful to make sure the shirt size is accurate. If in doubt, order a larger size. Shirts are 100% cotton, pre-shrunk. Also, please include the name of the LEAH Chapter your family belongs to. Dad’s volunteering to coach should use the form to order your uniform shirt as well. There is no cost for coach’s uniforms and hats. All players will be required to wear their hat and shirt every time we meet. Please note that we will continue to use black hats. If your child has a black hat from previous seasons, you do not need to order one. Shorts or pants are allowed, but dresses are NOT permitted. Please observe this league rule.
The registration fee will again be $16 per player, which includes a hat and shirt. If you have a black hat from previous seasons, you may subtract $2 from this cost. As in the past, we want to encourage any family that cannot afford the registration fee to enroll their students anyway. If this is the case for your family, simply enter “Grant” in the Total Cost area of the application. The Lord will take care of the rest. Those of you willing to give extra to assist those in need are encouraged to do so. Simply add it to your check. It has proven to be a great blessing in the past. We will also continue to offer the “Coach’s Grant” for any dads who coach.. Any family with a dad committing to coach may subtract $10 from the Total Cost area of the application.
Again this year, as an option for players who would like, in addition to their uniform shirt, they may order a long-sleeve sweatshirt. The sweatshirt would match the color of the player’s team uniform and have our logo on it. Players could wear this sweatshirt on cool evenings. Cost for the optional sweatshirt is $12.50. Parents who would also like to order shirts or sweatshirts to match their child’s team may use the registration form to do so. Additional short-sleeve shirts may be ordered at a cost of $9 each. Again, the sweatshirts and extra shirts for parents are not required. They are merely an option for those families who want them. We’ve had requests in the past to make these available, and they are not necessary for your child to be part of their team.
