As my children are now on the home stretch of our homeschooling journey, I find myself reminiscing more frequently about the younger years. I have pictures of them when they were little on my phone; I post some on my Facebook page, etc. Now, those of you who know me, know that that I am not the sentimental, gushy type. The fact that I will have three high schoolers, and beyond, next year is hitting home. I am excited to see what God has in store for them and am enjoying watching them come into who God made them to be. We are currently reading through the Bible chronologically together. Our weekly discussions can go from serious to silly in a matter of seconds as we are amazed at God’s awesomeness and sense of humor, at times. My daughter will come home from an event and tell me every detail of her outing, sometimes until the wee hours of the morning! These times are precious!
Now many of you are just starting your homeschool journey. Your children are young and have many needs. Take it from me, treasure this time. Sometimes the days just run together, you get behind in your tasks, no one seems to notice all you do. Guess what? God does! He has given you those little, sticky fingered, rambunctious gifts full of life to nurture and grow for Him! Take some time and just enjoy your kids. Set the books aside for an hour or so and have a picnic on the living room floor, build a fort under the kitchen table and do your read-alouds there. Your children will remember these times more than that you folded their clothes for them.
Homeschooling is a gift. It’s a privilege. My husband and I have enjoyed our kids and wouldn’t change a thing. As you continue in your journey remember, the days may be long, but the years are short!
God bless you!
