Loving Education At Home, Inc. is an organization of like-minded Christian home educators, dedicated to observing the biblical commands of Deuteronomy 6:4-9 , Proverbs 22:6 and Ephesians 6:4. LEAH began in 1983 with five Christian families seeking support and fellowship. It grew into a statewide not-for-profit ministry providing support through a network of local chapters.
As an organization NYS LEAH has a board of directors that is comprised of 11 elected volunteer positions: President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, and seven Regional Representatives.
How is support provided?
* Local Chapters - The network of 150 local LEAH Chapters currently serves over 3700 families. Each chapter is lead by one or more dedicated Christian leaders and is unique in the way it provides support. Chapters may offer field trips, co-ops, newsletters, and even graduations. Your local chapter is the best place to go for help with getting started and the encouragement to succeed.
* Education - Chapter leaders meetings with workshops for leadership training and an annual convention are just two of the ways LEAH works to help educate home educators.
* Conventions - The LEAH Organization currently hosts 2 annual conventions. One in Upstate NY and one in Long Island. We welcome home schooling families to attend either of these events. At the conventions you'll find workshops and speakers, curriculum and home school materials vendors, food, fellowship and much more!
* Regulatory And Legislative - LEAH serves as a watchdog to protect your right to home educate in New York State. This includes working with HSLDA (Home School Legal Defense Association) to monitor federal and state bills or regulations that would impact home education and serving on the Home Instruction Advisory Group (HIAG) committee to the State Education Department. To assist you, LEAH maintains a "Regulatory Manual" that details and explains the home education regulations in New York State.
* Information - A quarterly newsletter "The Messenger," a state-of-the-art web portal, chapter leader mailings, and fax/e-mail updates keep open lines of communication for urgent legislative and regulator issues, encouragement, and home education news, information, and resources.
