Homeschooled Graduates NOT Welcome!

Well that’s what it seems like!

Did you know that the Commissioner of Education has recently decided that homeschooled high school students can’t prove their education using their diploma, their transcript, a portfolio, SATs or other test scores, not even the placement tests given by the colleges?

(It doesn’t matter that we consistently follow the regulations and are already the most heavily regulated state in the union.)

Did you know that New York State Education Department has decided that homeschool graduates can’t attend state colleges and universities AND graduate with degrees?

(This is indeed the case, even if the students are ALREADY enrolled and are succeeding in their classes. Because in their eyes, the student never “really” obtained an education if they didn’t get a state diploma.)

Did you know that (in the their eyes) there are only 3 ways to prove your child’s education?  One is for a student to get a GED and a GED is not in the student’s best interest?

Text Box: “Would you like it better if it wasn’t called a GED?” … Asked the SED(It’s true, and even public school administrators don’t want their students taking the GED.  The GED has a stigma attached to it.  Why should our students be forced to take a test designed for dropouts when they have completed 4 years of school?  They also may be held to college enrollment limits for students that hold GEDs.  If they have a GED they can be dropped into a lower tier for the military.  They may be over looked for employment by potential employers or run the future risk of not being able to advance because their education seems “incomplete?”)  (The other options are for the students to get a GED diploma by taking 24 specific credits at a community college; which is STILL a GED, or getting a letter from their Superintendent certifying their child’s education.  Our concern is that superintendents will develop extensive monitoring procedures if they feel responsible for certifying our equivalency.)

Did you know that NYS is the ONLY state putting extra requirements on homeschool students?

(They are, even though the federal government recognizes homeschool diplomas and colleges are saying that our students do very well.  The colleges also say that the new requirements won’t make a difference in the student’s performance.  It’s just more paperwork.)

PLEASE, Call and write your Regents today and ask them to STOP

this discrimination of homeschool students in NYS!
